Takriban watu 150 wameuawa katika shambulizi lililofanywa na kikundi cha kigaidi cha Al-Shabaab, katika eneo la Garisa, nchini Kenya. Katika tukio hilo la kinyama lililotokea saa 11 asubuhi kwenye Chuo Kikuu cha Garisa, magaidi hao waliwapiga risasi na kuwachinja wanafunzi Wakristo.baada ya kuwazidi nguvu walinzi.

Kwa mujibu wa gazeti la Daily Mail la hapa Uingereza, idadi ya waliouawa inafikia 147 na majeruhi ni 79 huku watu 500 wakiokolewa. Wengi wa waliouawa na wanafunzi wa chuo hicho, pamoja na polisi wawili,mwanajeshi mmoja na walinzi wawili.

Maafisa usalama wa Kenya walieleza kuwa gaidi mmoja alikamatwa wakati anajaribu kutoroka. Kadhalika, serikali ya nchi hiyo imetangaza zawadi ya Shilingi za Kenya Milioni  20 kwa atakayewezesha kukamatwa kwa Mohammed Mohamud, anayejulikana pia kama Dulyadin, au Gamadhere, ambaye anatuhumiwa kupanga shambulizi hilo.

Wanausalama nchini humo wanaamini kuwa gaidi huyo ni mkuu wa operesheni za kigaidi wa kundi la Al-Shaabab.Inaaminika kuwa gaidi huyo ametumia muda mwingi kuwafunza magaidi watarajiwa kwenye madrasa mbalimbali.Pia anatuhumiwa kuhususika na shambulizi jingine la kigaidi lililotokea Novemba 22 mwaka jana huko Mkka, nchini humo, ambapo watu 28 waliuawa.

Mkuu wa Polisi, Joseph Boinet, alitangaza amri ya kutotembea ovyo kuanzia saa 12 unusu jioni hadi saa 12 unusu asubuhi.katika mikoa minne inayopakana na Somalia kama tahadhari ya kiusalama.

Mmoja wa mashuhuda wa tukio hilo, Collin Wetangula, Makamu Mwenyekiti wa Serikali ya Wanafunzi chuni hapo, alieleza kuwa yeye na wenzake waliposikia milio ya bunduki walijificha kwa kujifungia chumbani.

"Nilisikia milio ya bunduki, lakini hakuna mtu aliyepiga kelele, kwa hofu ya kuwashtua wanaofanya shambulio hilo."

Wetangula alieleza zaidi alisikia magaidi hao wakihoji wanachuo kuhusu dini zao (kama ni Waislam au Wakristo). Alisema, "Ukiwaambia wewe ni Mkristo, walikupiga risasi hapohapo. Kila mlio wa bunduki ulinifanya nijisikie kama nakufa."

Wiki iliyopita, Afisa Mkuu wa Usalama katika Chuo Kikuu cha Nairobi alitoa tahadhari ya uwezekano wa shambulio la kigaidi lakini bado haijafahamika kuwa iwapo taarifa hizo zilitolewa kwa Chuo Kikuu cha Garisa pia.

Grace Kai, mwanafunzi wa Chuo cha Ualimu cha Garisa, alieleza kuwa walipewa tahadhari kuwa kuna uwezekano wa kutokea shambulio la kigaidi. Alisema, "Sura ngeni zilionekana Garisa, na kulikuwa na hisia ni magaidi."

"Jumatatu, Mkuu wa Chuo alitupa tahadhari...kwamba kuna sura ngeni zimeonekana maeneo ya chuoni hapo."
Kenyan officials had warned that al-Shabaab were suspected of planning a major assault on the college 
"Kisha Jumanne, tuliruhusiwa kurejea majumbani, na chuo kufungwa., lakini kampasi iliendelea kuwa wazi...na sasa wameshambulia."
