The former head of MI6 says he is concerned about the big brother surveillance society and the 'loss of liberties' in Britain. Sir Richard Dearlove said the extensive use of anti-terrorist stop and search powers by the Metropolitan Police in London was one of the worst examples. He warned it could even be an 'abuse' of the law to use the power so excessively.

The former boss of the Secret Intelligence Service, who was in charge of combating Al-Qaeda in Britain in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, made the comments during a speech at the Hay Festival in Wales...
